Sunless Skies is a gothic horror game made by the same people who created Sunless Seas. This time, you get to explore the celestial ocean that is filled with strange adventures (where you get to murder a sun), all kinds of unexplainable horrors, and incredibly immersive storytelling. The game was developed and released by Failbetter Games on January 31st, 2019.

Cosmic lightning, violent storms, space waste-winds, all of this is standing between you and your engine. That's why you should respect and also maintain your engine. You can even upgrade it from time to time, and get some weapons and fancy equipment for your ship. Many hostile Heavens lurk around in the vast emptiness of space, and when you can't fight, you should run. After all, you're the captain of your locomotive. It's your job to deliver goods (be it souls or crates of time), explore many distant regions, and try not to get killed by Lovecraftian entities. Sunless Skies is set in the fictional Fallen London Universe which features some twisted and dark lore that inspires fear and amazement at the same time.

Many different factions and beasts are out there, and each of them has their own purpose to fulfill and attacks to use against you. Take care of your crew while you're dealing with the insanity that your captain is slipping into. Do you dare go where no man has gone before and peer into the sunken abyss? Recruit many officers for your goal, be it drivers, princesses, devils, and much more. When one captain dies, another one fills his place, but each of them leaves a mark on the world for their descendants.

Explore the fantastic High Wilderness, a haunting vision of space that man did not expect when reaching for the stars. Sunless Skies offers multiple stories that intertwine with one another and were inspired by brilliant minds such as Lovecraft, Jules Verne, HG Wells, and CS Lewis. See detailed and luscious hand-drawn 2D art, and uncover dark and terrible secrets that the universe holds.

#LoveIndies celebrates indie games and the teams behind them. We started this event in 2018 by rating, reviewing and recommending our favourite indie games, and inviting our community to do the same. This year's event takes place from the 1st to the 12th of June, with the Review Hour in the middle, on the 6th of June. #LoveIndies Review Hour is simple: spend just an hour going through your Steam library and leaving a quick review for any indie games which you've played, but not yet reviewed or r...

The games industry has been hit pretty hard from the Covid-19 pandemic. Most events this side of the year have been cancelled or postponed, and now hundreds of workers being urged to work from home (including all of us here at RPS). The impact of this style of working will be different for everyone, so I spoke with some UK studios to see how they’re getting on. “What we fear might be affected is creativity, as a lot of what defines Bossa stems from impromptu chats, quick discussion...

Releasing a game is a fiddly business. There’s no giant red button you can press to launch your baby into the world. In fact, there are so many buttons that when we released Sunless Skies on January 31st last year, everybody in the office got to click at least one of them. It took about half an hour. We stood around sipping champagne out of plastic flutes, taking turns with the mouse. That little ceremony marked the end of an arduous 17 months in Early Access, but we had no intention of stopping...
