Call of Duty Steadily Lost Over 50 Million Players In A Year

When was the last Call of Duty: Warzone update that brought something interesting and fresh to the table? Do you have trouble remembering something like that? Well, you’re not the only one, as the Call of Duty franchise as a whole wasn’t all that impressive last year.

Call of Duty: Warzone Season 7 is quite boring, and I don’t see a lot of people saying otherwise. On the other hand, at least we got Call of Duty: Vanguard, a refreshing military shooter experience. Just kidding, if you took at least one look at absolutely any Call of Duty: Vanguard reviews, you know just how poorly the game was received by both players and game reviewers.

Anyhow, Activision showed their 2022 investor report. It didn’t bring any good news for the CoD franchise. If you remember, Call of Duty: Warzone had a lot of cool events in 2019, 2020, and 2021. That’s when the game reached 150 million active users. Quite an impressive number, which now steadily decreased to 100 million users.

Vanguard was another disappointment for Activision. But no one ever expected much of that game. Both Battlefield and CoD are in quite a pickle with their most recent releases. Still, Warzone is free2play, so that player decrease is a lot more concerning. It is, however, warranted, as Warzone players had to deal with horrible balancing, a broken new map, and other issues the past year.

While the Call of Duty: Warzone player count does look grim, Activision has a plan. It’s an old and reliable one, called “Let Infinity Ward do a Modern Warfare sequel”. Infinity Ward is also working on Warzone 2, which is remade from the ground up with a new engine. So Call of Duty: Warzone Season 8 will definitely be interesting and 2023 will be an enticing year for Call of Duty players.
