Dauntless Open Beta Begins On May 24th

Dauntless is something like an MMO Dark Souls game, and it looks like it’s going to be quite a fun experience. The game is still in Closed Beta, but the Open Beta will start on May 24th. That’s less than a month away, and before that, the developers want to release a big new update on May 2nd to test certain features before the Open Beta begins. The progression system is getting improved, new additions like the reputation system are being added, and quest diversity is getting increased. Dauntless is improving in all the right ways, and we can’t wait to see how the game plays once it enters the Open Beta.

Dauntless

In a game like this, it’s important to have meaningful progression. After all, you are fighting really powerful monsters, so after you defeat them you want that sense of progression, so you can be ready for the next, even more dangerous opponent. Phoenix Labs described the new progression system like this:

No one envies the cartographers of Ramsgate the nearly impossible task of charting the courses and positions of the Shattered Isles. By the same token, the challenges that you’ll face as a Slayer will grow, evolve, and change over time. Dauntless’ new progression system is not merely an update to quest lines or crafting requirements, but a new platform on which we’ll build the stories of this world, your relationships with the characters that inhabit it, and the content we’ll be adding for years to come.

Players also got a new world map which allows them to see what’s available for them to hunt, which makes life a whole lot easier. The world of Dauntless is also improving, or to be more precise, evolving, as Islands now rotate in and out of the range of Ramsgate. This means that the activities that Slayers engage in change over time as you play. You can read more about these features and the late game “Evergame” experience over at their official post.
