Death Stranding Creator Talks Reasoning Behind Secrecy

For the last couple years now, gamers have had a big question on their minds, and that question is, “What the heck is Death Stranding about?” The question is a valid one in just about every way that matters. After all, while the initial trailer didn’t show us much, which is standard sometimes for a new IP, subsequent trailers haven’t given us much more. To the extent where the game is still coming out, yet we have no idea what we’re going to be playing.

So, why is creator Hideo Kojima doing all of this sleight-of-hand and secrecy? Easy, he doesn’t want leaks or spoilers to come out:

“We live in a time of social networks,” said Kojima while speaking to Variety. “In this time, people just want immediate answers, but not only answers, they also want to know what they feel. This is good, this is bad. This is a game I should like. This is a game I shouldn’t like. They want answers for what they should think.”

He’s got a point, a lot of what makes up video games nowadays are the leaks and reveals that happen BEFORE a game launches, which can spoil many a thing for many a people, and it’s fair that Kojima doesn’t want that to happen.

“It’s like a math problem, where knowing the answer is not that important,” said Kojima. “The important thing is the process of getting to the answer.”

Well, Kojima is making very good on that process, as the trailers we’ve seen have shown more and more characters, and have teased the “monsters” that’ll be in the game, but have also given us haunting visuals in regards to babies being in unusual places, people being controlled, and explosions reminiscent of the Big Bang.

Death Stranding is coming to PS4.
