Destiny 2’s Nightfall Strike And Prestige Raids Getting Major Changes

There’s a danger to video game sequels, especially when they come from very successful titles. For if you don’t do enough to change things, people wonder why they were made in the first place. But, if you change it too much, you’ll likely disappoint those who loved what the original did. The latter is what happened with Destiny 2. The game was poised to be a major hit with gamers, yet, despite all the sales, the fanbase was not impressed. Developer Bungie made many radical changes to the game from its predecessor, and many were controversial.

For example, one such change was the Nightfall Strike, where a timer had been put into it, and players couldn’t avoid enemies anymore. Players were not happy with this. And now, Bungie themselves admit they did something wrong. In their weekly blog post, they laid out that changes were coming to the mode:

Nightfall should be a challenging test that only the bravest Guardians dare face. Fireteams of any size should be able to participate, from organized clan groups to skilled solo players. Players should be able to determine their own challenge level, by going slow and steady or fast and wild, with elective modifiers to test the most hardcore veterans.

As for when you can expect to start seeing the changes. The Bungie team notes that an upcoming update, which is scheduled to release on the 27th, will show off some of these changes. But that’s not the only thing that’s being changed in Destiny 2. Bungie notes that Prestige Raids are also getting overhauled:

“This new version of Prestige requires players to complete raids filled with deadly enemies using a curated loadout of weapons and a special modifier that enhances the way you play,”

This new Prestige mode is set to arrive in May. How all these changes will resonate with players may be the biggest mystery of all.
