Detective Pikachu Movie Gets Plot Revealed?

One of the beautiful things about the Pokemon franchise is that there is a lot of room for both diversity and a plethora of sub-genres to explore with the Pokemon characters. There have been dungeon crawlers, fighting games, card games, puzzle games, and more featuring the creatures of the universe. But one of the most unique games to come out of this desire to expand is Detective Pikachu. This features a talking Pikachu that acts very un-Pokemon like and teams with a human to solve mysteries.

The game was a bit hit in Japan, and eventually came over to the United States. Not long after, it was announced that the game would be a live-action film…starring Ryan Reynolds as Detective Pikachu. And now, the team at Super Bro Movies claims that they know exactly what the film will be about. Check it out:

“The story begins when ace private eye Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened,” the synopsis reads. “Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself.”

But wait, there’s more to the plot leak:

“Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu become reluctant partners on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live in partnership in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.”

Those who have played the game will note how very close this sounds to it. Granted, the movie is no doubt going to expand upon some things and stretch out certain parts of the plot, but it is similar no doubt.

The only question now is, will the Detective Pikachu movie live up to the legacy that the game laid down? We’ll find out when the movie releases May 10th, 2019.
