Doom VFR Will Have Some Classic Doom Levels

Doom was a big thing for video gaming. It was the original first-person shooter in many ways, and its brutality was something that had only been glimpsed at in some video games in the early days. Then came Doom 2, Doom 3, and more, and it just kept getting bigger and more insane, but in a good way. Then, it went away, and many wondered if it would never rise again, well, Bethesda heard that, and so they decided to bring back Doom to the modern age. Then, they decided to bring the game to Virtual Reality via Doom VFR.

That’s right, Doom on a virtual reality headset, and the best part? It’s only days away. In fact, it’s coming out on December 1st, and there’s a lot to be excited about for it. But one of the big ones may be that the VFR version will feature some classic Doom levels for you to go through.

These maps are the Toxic Refinery and Nuclear Plant, which to be clear, will be shown in their low-res versions. This is meant so that it’ll truly look like the original Doom levels. The monsters, however, will be their modern versions with high-quality textures and graphics.

There were some questions about whether these would come to Doom VFR because of the low-poly nature of it all, but clearly, Bethesda found a way to make it work. What’s more, like the original console version of the game, you can get these maps by playing and beating the main campaign. And just like the other levels in the VFR version, your controls will remain the same in these retro levels.

You have to give it to Bethesda, they know how to make an experience even better, mixing the old and the new in a way that is clever and fun.
