Entire Myst Series To Be Updated And Re-Released This Year

When you think of video game series that helped change the industry, you often think of title like Mario, Halo, Portal, Final Fantasy, etc. But at one time, the most popular game series out there was none of them, but rather, a point-and-click adventure game known simply as Myst. This mystery adventure game has players trying to solve puzzles on an island in order to solve some great mysteries. The series had a long run, and inspired my spinoffs and clone series who tried to capture the magic.

Fast forward to 2018, and while Myst isn’t as big as it used to be, it’s still very much respected. Including still being beloved by its original developer, Cyan. So much so that they made this announcement on their website:

Over the last few years we’ve been working to procure the rights to make all of the Myst games available. As an indie developer, resources are limited for development, and acquiring rights isn’t always an option. But we managed to finally talk to all the right people and departments and put some funding together to try to make it happen. With agreements in place, we’re happy to announce that we’ll be releasing updated (for Windows 10) versions of all the Myst games later this year!

Myst

This is exciting, especially for those who haven’t been able to play any of the series. Plus, with it coming out to Windows 10, you can expect much crisper graphics and likely some refined gameplay elements to ensure that the game translates well to the modern age of gaming.

Now, if you were hoping for an announcement of a new Myst title (you aren’t alone in that hope), then you’re likely a little sad. However, the Cyan team did say that there could be more adventures in the universe down the road. It just won’t be in 2018.
