Fornite Gets New Soundtrack Via Comic Book Movie Composers

When making a video game, there are a lot of elements that go into it. First, there’s the look, as that’s what players will be seeing every second. Then, there’s gameplay, where you have to determine what people will be playing. Usually, people think the design process stops there. But it doesn’t. There’s a lot of other factors that go into it, and one of the biggest ones is music. Music can help make things more dramatic, more impactful, more special. Epic Games knows this, and thus they had some special new music made for Fortnite.

Not that Fortnite didn’t have good music before, but with the arrival of its Season 03 content, Epic Games decided to go above and beyond the call of duty (pardon the pun). In fact, not only did they make completely new pieces of the score to highlight this new season (you can hear a clip here) they went to two of the best in the movie business to get it done.

Marco Beltrami and Pinar Toprak have worked on several films in regards to composing music. Beltrami worked on Logan and The Hurt Locker, while Toprak worked on the recent Justice League film, as well as the upcoming TV series Krypton.

Beltrami noted to Rolling Stone that his expectations of what to make music-wise changed after seeing the game. For the concept of it, and how it actually looks and plays, is different.

“Because it sounds like it could be kind of dark. You know, the monsters are coming and you have to defend and shoot them. But it has more of a family-type of feel to it. I think the fact that you’re not just defending yourself, but also trying to save other people…all of these things are really important elements musically, because music is the emotional undercurrent of the story. And the player has to feel that.”

Season 03 of Fortnite is live now, so be sure to keep your ears open for that new soundtrack.
