Fortnite Could Go Over 100 Players One Day

Fortnite continues to excel in the video game market. It’s monthly profit shares are already massive, and yet they’re growing every month. Which can also be said about their player base. They’re beating their rival, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, in many categories, including concurrent player base. And arguably most important, Epic Games has been keeping things fresh with new content, new modes, new weapons, new cosmetics to get, and so much more. So, the question is, how can Epic change the game next? Well, how about through expanding the limits of the game?

You see, whether you want to admit it or not, Fortnite really did copy PUBG’s Battle Royale mode, which means that the mode can only contain 100 players. Now, Epic has gotten creative in how to use that 100, including having a 50v50 mode, or teams of 20 going up against each other, but now, players are asking if the game can go beyond 100 players, and Epic is intrigued by that notion.

In the newest issue of PlayStation Magazine,  Epic Games’ Eric Williamson stated this on the idea.

“One of the things we’ve been talking about is, ‘does it make sense to ever consider more than a hundred players?’” Williamson said. “I think there’s a lot of technological considerations for something like that. I mean, personally, I would love to try it. I don’t see it in our near future but, hey, why not?”

Now, there are pros and cons to both sides of this issue. If they do go beyond 100 players, that could open up new possibilities, new ways to play, and of course, bring more people into each game, which some would say is a plus.

However, Fortnite has been having a lot of server issues since its launch, including some recently. And if 200 people (for example) were trying to play all over the world? You can bet it would be problematic. Still, Epic says it wouldn’t be a “near future” thing, but it is something to talk about for sure.
