Games and their promotions

Ever since computer, console and mobile gaming entered our lives, we have been ardent adopters of their lure. Gaming is today a multi-billion dollar industry that employs tens of thousands of people worldwide. Now every game needs to be interesting and challenging enough in itself to draw in and hold the attention of the public. The fine balance between the toughness of a challenge and the satisfaction of overcoming it, plays an important role here. The game atmosphere and experience are other things that draw people in.

But the success of a game is not just about how good the game is. Sometimes when games are made from popular movies, the popularity of the movies themselves fuel the interest for the games. And many are the ones developed from movie franchises. A recent addition to this particular list is from the Jurassic Park series. But even then, the work does not stop there. Post development, the game needs to be presented to the world in an exciting enough way to interest potential gamers. A whole ecosystem of game promoters has made this their business. They are not necessarily game developers or have any interest in influencing the game flow or design, their work starts after the game is available for deployment. Or in some cases, while it is in production in order to create a the much-required hype around the game.

The Competitions

A great way to promote a game is to host gamer competitions. Nowadays this has become big business with incredible amounts of prize moneys to be won. In some cases, the bag can reach figures like $100million. An astonishing amount by any standard! Game franchises like Counter Strike and World of Warcraft have teams from across the world battle it out for the big money and the bragging rights.

The rise of gaming competitions has given rise to professional gaming teams, professional game commentators and whole new range of associated employment opportunities to countless millions. A good example in this regard is the Champions League eSports competition hosted by PES 2018. And through these competitions, games are becoming household names in the world of gamers and creating their own legends.

Blogging

This seems to be a great way to be promoting almost anything. And it works for gaming too. Of course, the trick here is to find a blogger who is well known enough and whose opinion the population respects and trusts. Creating your own blog is an option but the effectiveness of a blog is a factor of its popularity. A solitary blog can’t do much for your game if nobody is reading it and performing some sort of a positive action after having read the blog. That’s why the professional bloggers command so much value. But stepping away from the professionals to community blogs can be good too, especially since the cynicism about the opinions of professional bloggers seem to be growing.

Social Media

This is another great channel for promotions. Forget about the big names in gaming, even newbie game developers have the opportunity to ride on social media to make their games resounding successes. By following the right hashtags, making friends and engaging the world in relevant conversations developers can go a long way in securing a favourable opinion in the world for their games. The rise of the gaming communities is being increasingly seen as a positive influence in the world today.

So whether you are a gamer or a game developer or a general public with not much interest in gaming, you just can’t escape the aura of game promotions completely. And why should you, especially since they are getting more and more exciting by the day?
