The Total War series has a lot of hits and misses. The games offer a combination of real-time strategy and turn-based empire management which can be extremely compelling. Or really sluggish and boring. Mechanically, Shogun 2 is the most un-restricted game. Later Total War games introduced a lot of strange mechanics. Most of which did not excite fans at all. Shogun 2 gives you total control over your army so you can use it however you wish to. The game even holds up well in terms of visuals. Even though it’s 9 years old, it doesn’t look bad. The graphics hold up quite well even today.
