GWENT To Get Major Overhaul Via “Homecoming” Update

The Witcher franchise is one of the most beloved RPG trilogies in recent memory, especially in regards to its final entry Wild Hunt. However, an unexpected fruit that rose from this was the CCG GWENT. This game was introduced in Wild Hunt and became so popular that CD Projekt Red turned it into its own video game, and fans happily played it. Since then, the developer has been updating the game, and before the end of the year, a singleplayer campaign will be coming to the title. However, that’s not the only change coming.

For in an insightful open letter to fans, the team revealed that the game is going to be getting an overhaul over the next six months. Why? Because in their eyes, the game has diverged from the original mission they had for GWENT.

“What we didn’t realize back then was that we also started slowly drifting away from our original vision for standalone GWENT. While fighting with the everyday reality of regular updates and content drops, we lost sight of what was unique and fun about the game.”

The update is going to be called “GWENT Homecoming”, and it’ll feature many overhauls, including to how you play it, how the board looks, the coins you get, fixing player progression, putting the focus back on the skills of the players and their ability to think through situations, and of course, focusing on the core gamers.

Interestingly enough, they also noted that the tone of the game is going to be changing as well. For it will become more in tune with what The Witcher is as a series. CD Projekt Red also noted that once the Homecoming overhaul is complete, then, and only then, will they launch Thronebreaker, their singleplayer campaign.

The team thanks you for your patience and understanding while they fix the game.
