Halo Infinite To Have RPG Elements?

It’s not uncommon for a gaming franchise to start out in one genre, then merge with another as time goes on. After all, the world of gaming is shaped by the games that are out there, and many titles put elements of other genres in it to make the game more complete, and more fun. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey did this recently, going from an a typical action-adventure game to one with lots of RPG elements, and it appears that Halo Infinite will be doing the same thing.

This comes from a job listing posted by Microsoft, they’re seeking a Senior Systems Designer, and in that listing they post the following:

343 is looking for a Senior Systems Designer to work on our next epic, systems-driven Halo Campaign.  We are looking for a seasoned individual to manage, architect, document, and help drive systemic gameplay within our Campaign experience. Key responsibilities will focus on building and help manage a passionate design team, working closely with other disciplines to design systems as well as tools for the Campaign team. While working closely with the Campaign Director, the ideal candidate will need strong communication skills to pass on both vision for the game as well as give and illicit critical feedback from their team.

To be fair, all this sounds pretty standard. But when you look at the “Qualifications” section, you see the following:

Familiarity with RPG and Shooter game mechanics.

Halo has always been a first-person shooter title. Outside of Halo Wars of course, but that was something entirely different obviously. So then that brings up the question, “What RPG elements will be in the game?”

The obvious answer might be that you can outfit your armor with abilities, or you can upgrade your weapons. There’s a lot of potential, we’ll have to see how it all works out.
