Head Of PlayStation Teases What’s Coming For System At E3. No PS5 Reveal

In a month’s time, all eyes will be on Los Angeles for E3 2018, the expo that brings together all of the biggest names in gaming to show off what’s coming from them in the next year or so. There’s a lot of anticipation and a lot of expectations in regards to the big 3 publishers. People wonder what Nintendo will surprise players with next, others want to know what Microsoft will do to boost the Xbox One. As for Sony, many are wondering if we’ll get a reveal for the PS5.

Well, during the PlayStation Blogcast, Chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide, Shawn Layden, talked about E3 and what all people could expect from their presentation. Obviously he didn’t reveal EVERYTHING, but he did tease appearances by Death Stranding, Spider-man, The Last of Us Part II, and Ghost of Tsushima and Days Gone.

But, if you’re looking for him to confirm a PS5 reveal, he said you shouldn’t expect any hardware reveals this year.

Insomniac Games

To be honest, it honestly makes sense why they’re not doing a hardware reveal at E3 2018, they’ve got a lot of games coming out to the PS4 still. And as the list above shows, these are all exclusive titles. Why detract from those by revealing a new console? Plus, if they did, the player base would wonder if they could play the new PS4 games on the PS5 instantly. It’d create a lot of confusion, and that’s not something Sony wants for sure.

More than that though, the PS4 is still doing extremely well sales wise. It’s either at the top or in 2nd place nearly every time a monthly NPD report surfaces. And as of the end of last year, the system was at 73 million units sold.

So there’s still plenty of time to enjoy your PS4, the PS5 will come eventually, but not likely this year.
