Hitler Censored in German Version of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus releasing in Germany was always going to be subject to some kind of censorship, given that any form of reference to Nazis is not only considered poor taste, it’s also illegal in the country.

Warning, this next section does contain spoilers, so skip over this section if you don’t want anything ruined. In one section of The New Colossus, there is a scene in which American actors are auditioning for the role of the game’s protagonist B.J. Blazcowicz in a film made by the Nazis. This particular scene includes Adolf Hitler, and naturally his involvement has been somewhat altered in the German version of the game.

How MachineGames has censored Hitler however is rather peculiar. As you can see from the video above, courtesy of Censored Gaming, shows that they have in fact removed his mustache. Not only that, but he isn’t actually called Hitler in this version, with the actor referring to him as “mein heiler” and is addressed as “mein kanzler.” This may seem like a strange to censor the figure, but some form of censorship was surely to be expected.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is now available on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

    very insightful, fabulous

If anything this makes the game comical and ruins the horror but then again the Germans would rather mask the past and pretend it didn’t happen
