Insomniac Felt Bad Leaving Certain Spider-Man Villains Out Of Game

One month from now, the latest title from Insomniac Games will hit the PS4. It’s their first true attempt at the superhero genre as they dive into Marvel Comics and the realm of Spider-Man. Making a game about one of the world’s most popular superheroes admittedly comes with a lot of pressure. For you not only have to show off the main character himself, but show off villains in a worthy light, and given that Spidey has a lot of memorable villains, this is not an easy thing.

And in an interview with Push Square, Insomniac fully admitted that one of their biggest struggles was figuring out which villains to put in and which to leave out:

“100 percent, yes. I think that everybody has their favorite character and supporting characters and villains, but at the end of the day, some people will be super happy and some people will be wishing there was someone else in there.

There’s already been a lot of villains confirmed for the game in one way or the other, including legendary ones like Kingpin, Shock, Electro, Scorpion, and more, but there are also some lesser known ones like Mr. Negative, and even Silver Sable. It’s clear that they wanted to appease both older and newer fans, but they also wanted to do what was best for the narrative:

“We had to do what was best for the experience, (both in terms of) the story we wanted to tell and in terms of a gameplay challenge. So, we just tried to find those best matches. It’s a pretty big cast so hopefully we got a lot of peoples’ favorites.”

And it’s a safe bet that not all the villains in the Spider-Man game have been announced yet. So as we get closer to the September 7th release date we’ll probably get more details on who’s in and who’s out.
