Microsoft Hasn’t Actually Bought Bethesda Yet

There’s a very good reason why Microsoft hasn’t talked about the acquisition of ZeniMax and Bethesda despite it being a big deal in the industry.

Microsoft paid $7.5 billion to own ZeniMax and Bethesda. It’s the largest acquisition in the gaming industry besides the time when Tencent bought the Clash of Clans devs for $8.6 billion. It’s quite an important event that shook a lot of gamers all over the world. You can’t be unbothered when a giant like Microsoft buys a giant like ZeniMax. However, we don’t hear Microsoft bragging about this or discussing what they’re going to do with all the developer studios they own now. Why? Well, there’s a good reason for this that hasn’t been released to the public. Up until now, that is.

Microsoft hasn’t actually bought ZeniMax yet, as was revealed in the GameReactor interview with Phil Spencer. They’ve only revealed their intention to do so, and both companies are in the middle of sealing the deal. But, nothing is final as of now. Phil said that their goal is to finalize the deal in early 2021. He and Todd sat down and talked about what’s the plan if they achieve a partnership. “‘I wanna build the best games that I’ve ever built and I want the support of Microsoft to be able to do that” is what Todd said. Strange, considering what disasters their past couple of titles were.
