The paranoia surrounding the coronavirus outbreak is real. It all started in China, but there have been reports of other countries encountering this problem.  This is most likely the reason for the removal of the game form both Steam and the App Store in China. In a sense, it’s understandable that they don’t want people to play a game that lets you simulate the development of a disease that you can then spread throughout the entire world. After all, the coronavirus is a serious threat that already claimed a lot of lives.

On the other hand, it’s just a video game. People hopefully understand that this can’t add more to the panic that’s already sweeping the country. I mean if people are playing the game they will spend less time watching news outlets that keep on increasing the panic. Ndemic are trying to reach out to the Cyberspace Administration of China. They want to reach an understanding and make sure Plague Inc. returns to China. Hopefully this gets resolved quickly and the game finds its way back to Steam and the App Store.
