PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds To Continue For 20 Years?

Longevity in gaming often depends on the title, the people that play it, and if there’s replayability involved. So while games like Rainbow Six Siege can last for years, and even grow in popularity as the years go on via updates and DLC, other titles like Far Cry 5 will likely have a much shorter life span. Then, there’s titles like Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, which are fueled solely by multiplayer action, and thus could last a very long time. But how long do the teams actually think they can go?

Well, at the BAFTA awards, the creator of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Brendan Greene, talked about how long he thinks his title will last and be supported.

“We want to do this for the next 20 years. We really want to build out a platform for game modes and possible esports. We’re committed to supporting this game for a long time.”

Twenty years is a long time, and he could be using that big number to show that he intends to support this version of the game, and this version alone, for a long time. Greene has been asked about sequels to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds in the past, and he’s quickly shot them down, and it’s not hard to see why.

Another factor in this is that they’re still working on the Xbox One version of the game, and after that, gamers want them to move to the PS4, which would also take some time I’m sure. So, once all that is taken care of, it’d be easy to see them spending the next however many years just updating and maintaining the game across the three platforms (should it come to that).

The question really is, “Will the gamers continue to play the game?” PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been in a rough spot as of late, so the future is very much uncertain. However, as long as people keep playing it, it looks like Greene and his team will keep supporting it.
