PlayStation Classic Gets Its ESRB Rating

For many, a rating of a video game can help determine whether a video game is worth buying or not. For an “E” is truly for everyone, “T” means it has some content not suitable for everyone, and “M” means that only the most mature people (mainly adults even though we KNOW that kids buy “M” rated games) should play them. What’s interesting though, is that the ESRB has to do ratings for compilations to, such as with the PlayStation Classic, which has a large variety of titles.

In fact, it has 20 titles on it, and that means there’s a lot of ratings that could be floated around because of it. Yet, the ESRB gave the PlayStation Classic an “M” rating, here’s why:

“This is a compilation of 20 Playstation titles that include action/adventure games; puzzles; and fighting, role-playing, and survival-horror games. In a handful of games, players use pistols, machine guns, and rifles to kill enemy creatures and human characters from third- or first-person perspectives; one game depicts players killing police officers from an overhead view. Blood is depicted as characters are shot and killed. A few games depict impalements as well as decapitation/dismemberment, resulting in large blood stains on the ground and underneath bodies. The compilation also includes some sexual material: dialogue that states, “Bubby’s got a sticky love nest…” and “My brother knows I’m b*nging his wife…”; demons with phallic-shaped heads and/or vulva-shaped torsos. The words “sh*t” and “as*hole” appear in the game; one song contains the word “f**k.”

Final Fantasy VII

If you forgot, while it’s true that the system has games like Rayman on it, it also has Metal Gear, Resident Evil, and the original Grand Theft Auto. So while it’s true that many games would be for everyone, there are some that shouldn’t be played without supervision.

The system releases on December 3rd.
