PlayStation Classic Reveals Multiplayer Titles

The PlayStation Classic was made to try and capitalize on the success of Sony’s competitor, Nintendo, and their popular retro consoles the NES Classic and the SNES Classic. Hence the name that they took. They’re hoping to take the love of the console that got them into the console war and turn it into some pretty lucrative profit. One of the ways they’re doing this is by making sure that the games they have can appeal to singleplayer people and multiplayer gamers.

But, it wasn’t clear as to what games on the PlayStation Classic would actually allow multiplayer play. So, Sony did a FAQ on their website, and they revealed the games that you could play with friends on:

  • Battle Arena Toshinden
  • Cool Boarders 2
  • Destruction Derby
  • Intelligent Qube
  • Driller
  • Ridge Racer Type 4
  • Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo
  • Tekken 3
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six
  • Twisted Metal

That’s quite a collection, and one that appeals to many different genres.

Now, another big question is that of how the save games work. How will players switch out what they need for save data and the like? Well, Sony answered that too:

Each title can support up to 15 virtual memory card slots, which you can manage from the console’s main UI. Just like the original PlayStation, once you delete a save file it fades away and cannot be recovered.

Additionally, pressing the Reset button on the PlayStation Classic console will bring you back out to the system’s main UI, creating a restore point wherever you left off in the game you were playing. Next time you play that game, you can return to the Restore point you had created before.

So there you have it, and if you had more questions, check out the FAQ and see if Sony answered them.

In the meantime, let me know what you think about the PlayStation Classic in the comments below. The system releases on December 16th.
