Reggie Fils-Aime Discusses Metroid Prime 4 Development

With nearly a month gone since E3 2018, you’d think that news from the conference would be petered out. Instead, we’re still getting looks, glimpses, and interviews from people at the convention. One of the more popular interview choices of the bunch is without a doubt Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime, who in many people’s minds had a lot to answer in regards to what Nintendo did, and didn’t, show at E3. One of the biggest disappoints in some fans minds was that Metroid Prime 4 wasn’t shown at all despite being confirmed last year at E3 2017.

Game Informer sat down with Reggie and asked him point blank about Metroid, he responded thusly:

“Last year was important to us to message to the Metroid fan that there was a Metroid Primeexperience in development, as we showed Metroid: Samus Returns for the 3DS. We didn’t want that fan to say ‘You just launched a new system, when are you going to bring me a Metroid on that platform?’ We said it was coming. This year, with so many games launching effectively between [now] and the first half of next year, we wanted to focus on those games. Rest assured, Metroid Prime 4 is still in development and proceeding well.”

This coincides with another interview Reggie had about why the Nintendo press conference this year felt more “slimmed down” in terms of big game reveals and announcements. Reggie noted in that interview that since last year was the Switch’s first E3, they wanted to deliver as many big announcements as they could, within reason. While this year, they wanted to focus on games that were coming out in the next 6-9 months. With the farthest game announced being Fire Emblem Three Houses.

Still, it’s good to know that Metroid Prime 4 is progressing, and hopefully, we’ll get another announcement on it soon.
