Reggie Fils-Aime Is Retiring From Nintendo

It’s been a very sad 24 hours for Nintendo fans, as one of the stalwart heroes of the brand for the last decade and a half has announced that he is going to retire. Reggie Fils-Aime has been the President of Nintendo of America for over a decade, and has been one of the biggest faces for the brand in recent memory. But after 15 years of service, loads of announcements, almost breaking the internet with all the memes he helped make, he’s hanging it up.

“Nintendo owns a part of my heart forever,” Fils-Aime said. “It’s a part that is filled with gratitude – for the incredibly talented people I’ve worked with, for the opportunity to represent such a wonderful brand, and most of all, to feel like a member of the world’s most positive and enduring gamer community. As I look forward to departing in both good health and good humor, this is not ‘game over’ for me, but instead ‘leveling up’ to more time with my wife, family and friends.”

Reggie Fils-Aime was a part of many high and low points in Nintendo history, but regardless of what was going on, he always brought the energy and gaming passion that gamers needed to hear. As for his replacement, he will be succeeded by Doug Bowser (yes, that’s his real name), who has also been at Nintendo for a long time, and was even mentored by Reggie:

“It has been my great fortune to work with and be mentored by Reggie for four years at Nintendo of America,” Bowser said. “And rest assured, we will continue to build on his work to evolve and expand our brand, furthering Nintendo’s global mission of creating smiles. There are millions more of those to come.”
