Rocket League To Have Full Cross-Play Support In July

Rocket League has been a title that has dared to be different from basically the moment it came out. Its gameplay is rather unique, they give constant and consistent updates, and the team at Psyonix are more concerned with making the game better than cashing in on a sequel. And, they’re also trendsetters, as they’re one of the teams that have been pushing for Cross-Play to happen for real. And now, they’ve revealed when this year that’ll happen, and it’s actually rather soon.

In an update on their website, the team revealed that in July, the Cross-Play aspect of their title will arrive. Now, to be clear, they haven’t said which consoles will be able to do Cross-Play, but their vagueness seems to indicate that all of them will get the ability. Which means, PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch players will be able to play matches against one another. Which would be a first for video games.

How this will happen is thus, you’ll make yourself a special ID that will be specific to the Cross-Play aspect of the game. Then, you’ll register your friends ID’s into the new Friends List feature, and once that’s done, you should be able to play with them no matter what system they’re on.

This is a huge thing for Rocket League, as not only will they be breaking ground, they can prove that Cross-Play is the future of gaming, something they’ve been very vocal of for some time. Not everyone has been on board with it, as Sony has been vehement about protecting the “privacy” of players, and thus have refused Cross-Play capabilities with games like Minecraft and Fortnite. Because of that, we’re a bit skeptical that they allowed it here, but only time will tell.

There’s a lot of other updates coming this Summer to Rocket League, so check out the full page to get the details.
