Sea Of Thieves Has Shut Down Private Crews

Rare took a bit risk when it came to making Sea of Thieves, it was unlike any game that they had made before, and as such, they were going to be doing things that they hadn’t done before. One of the big ones was support online activity on a grand scale, and they would need to ensure that the game was top level so that people could play it without being frustrated. Well, so far, they’re about 50/50, and a new promise they made has now gotten backtracked.

One of the things that players have wanted for Sea of Thieves was the ability to form Private Crews. Meaning, that they could run a ship with their friends and not random people from all over the world. Well, Rare was doing some maintenence on the game and promised that when it was brought back up, the Private Crews (or Closed Crews as they call it), would be up. Sadly, that’s not the case.

For on Twitter, they posted this:

We have completed our emergency maintenance and the game is back online. The previously added features have been turned off temporarily and we will continue to monitor game performance and develop a plan to reinstate the features soon. Thank you for your patience.

The Private Crews feature seemed to have triggered the “emergency maintenance”, and thus means that something was going wrong with the new feature. There is no clue as to where the problem was or when the feature will return.

This has been a bit par for the course for the game. For although it’s done well sales wise, and there are people playing it, it’s not exactly a complete experience. Many have noted that the game is really empty, and Rare has been scrambling to add new content. We’ll have to see if things get better or worse for the game.
