Shadow Of War Tops October Game Sales

Sales are very important to be game developers and the players themselves. For if a company does well, a hit game may get a sequel, which players more-than-likely want. But, if they do bad, things won’t work out. October was by far one of the busiest months in gaming this year, as numerous top titles were released across all systems. This included some major exclusive games as well. But when the dust settled, there was only one victor in the software sales: Middle-Earth: Shadow Of War.

The NPD sales swept across the internet, and it revealed some very interesting things. For example, though Shadow of War won, it was no doubt because of the fact it released at the end of September, and its popularity carried through to October. What’s more, its biggest competition in Assassin’s Creed Origins and Super Mario Odyssey (which took No.2 and No.3 in software sales for the month) both released on the 27th of October, so their sales were only based on a few days and not a whole month.

Nemesis Shadow Of War

That’s not to say the game doesn’t deserve praise, far from it, the title has improved on just about everything the original Shadow Of Mordor had, and then some. Fans and critics alike loved the new changes to the Nemesis system, as well as the Siege warfare that became a key mechanic to the game.

Another note, both Shadow of War and Assassin’s Creed Origins both saw major success to in large part because both games were multi-platform releases. Whereas Super Mario Odyssey was only on the Nintendo Switch, and sold 2 million+ in the first three days.

This was no doubt part of the reason that the Nintendo Switch was once again the highest-selling console of the month. But still, the software sales king is the Bright Lord with the ring.
