The dream of every ARPG fan comes true

The dream of every ARPG player came true. We’re finally getting a remaster of Diablo 2. Modern graphics, a slick new UI, cross-progression, better multiplayer, expanded stash, and it’s even coming to consoles. This is the ARPG that defined this genre. There’ve been many other action RPGs after, but none came close to the greatness of Diablo 2.

On the other hand, we all know how Warcraft3: Reforged launched. A disaster that left a scar on Blizzard as a company. Not that they don’t have a bunch of such scars already, but that remaster was an insane disaster.

Diablo 2: Resurrected is in safe hands

Rod Fergusson is known for his work on the Gears of War franchise. He’s also the one who helped BioShock Infinite deal with all its dev problems and release it as a finished product. Rob Fergusson is executive producer and head of the entire Diablo franchise and the principal designer of Diablo 2: Resurrected is Rob Gallerani.

Vicarious Visions, where Gallerani works, is the studio that brought us the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2. Players fell in love with both of these, so we know that this dev team is capable.

Blizzard’s Team 1 was supposed to make the Diablo 2 remaster. That’s the people who made Warcraft 3: Reforged, Heroes of the Storm, and StarCraft 2. So, also people who know what they’re doing. Yet, maybe remasters aren’t their thing so we’re happy this project went to another dev.

Keep your expectations low

Despite all this, remember — Blizzard is doing this for the money. Not for the fans, or for their love of the game. Activision-Blizzard is all about that cash, so keep your expectations low. There are too many higher-ups and executives making all the decisions for this remaster to be a labor of love.

Keep your expectations low. That way if the remaster ends up being amazing, then awesome. We all get to enjoy the best ARPG once again in our lives. If it ends up being a disaster, then it’s the same as all Blizzard releases in recent times.
