Sony Reveals Why They Did Their E3 Press Conference Like They Did

E3 2018 is over, and people are still talking about what happened, as well as what didn’t happen. The event was huge to be sure, but there were some oddities and omissions that many have noticed. One of the big thing was that the Big 3 had very different press conferences that didn’t exactly live up to the hype. Sony’s for example focused of four main games on PS4 and little else, and the style of their press conference confused and baffled many. Why did they do it like that?

Well, according to Michael Denny in an interview with Gameindustry.biz, it was all about being different:

“At PlayStation, we do like to do things different, push some boundaries here and there.” He then added, “This time, we did want it to have a focus on the big four exclusive titles and go in-depth more on those games.”

Insomniac Games Spider-Man

He went on to note that the true goal was to show off those main games and let the people there get a chance to be a part of the showcase:

“We were trying to give it more of a community with the themed element, particularly with The Last of Us Part 2 and then following into the themed areas. It was a different approach, it was about letting the games speak for themselves.”

To that end, they were successful. Between Spider-Man from Insomniac, Death Stranding, The Last Of Us Part II and Ghosts of Tsushima, they did show off in great detail what’s coming, but not all were happy with how Sony did things.

First off, while the event was immersive, it was also paced very weirdly, with many complaining about the “intermission” that happened in it. There was also a drop in the stream, the area the conference was held in was very hot, and more.

It’ll be interesting if Sony chooses to go this path in the future in the next E3.
