Spider-Man PS4 Is The “Iron Man Of Video Games”

The internet has been abuzz recently with the release of the Spider-Man title on PS4 from developer Insomniac Games. While a big risk, the company behind Ratchet and Clank, Resistance, and more really pulled it off to deliver an experience that fans have felt since Spider-Man 2 on Gamecube and PS3. And as if to prove this fact, the game sold 3.3 million copies in its first three days, so now imagine how well its done in the weeks after? Yeah, it’s probably near 5 million if its not there already.

The director of Insomniac, Bryan Intihar had high praise for the game when he talked to Gamespot, likening the success of the game to the Marvel Cinematic Universe:

“One of my fave parts of this video is when [Bryan] talks about how Marvel’s Spider-Man is intended as ‘the Iron Man of Marvel video games,’ which is exactly how we view it. As with that first MCU hit, [Marvel’s Spider-Man] kicks off a new era for Marvel console games.”

If you’re confused, don’t be. Iron Man was the first official film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and just like the Spider-Man game on PS4, it was considered a risk to make. And yet, both the movie and the game had much success. And because of the success of Iron Man, the MCU was allowed to grow and evolve into the juggernaut it is right now.

“The funny thing that Marvel and I talk a lot about, is this is the Iron Man, this is the one that’s going to start it off.”

Whether this actually leads to a Marvel gaming universe is a bit up for debate. After all, just because one franchise works in gaming form doesn’t mean they all will. Which is likely why it’s taking a long time for Rocksteady to announce their next project since finishing with Batman.
