Super Smash Bros Ultimate Has Sold 3 Million In United States

We all that the moment that Super Smash Bros Ultimate was released that it would be a MASSIVE hit for the Nintendo Switch. There was no chance that it wouldn’t be. But the question was…how much would it sell in its opening week or so? Speculation ran wild, especially when pre-orders for the game were speculated to have gone beyond Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee, which were the fastest-selling Switch titles upon their release. So, how would Ultimate do? The answer? Very well.

While we’re still waiting on results for the region of the UK, we already knew that Super Smash Bros Ultimate in Japan had sold 1.2 million in the first few days. And now, the NPD (which covers the United States) has noted that in a little over a week, Ultimate sold 3 million copies. To refresh, that means that Ultimate sold 3 million copies in a little over a week in just the United States alone. Add that to the Japanese numbers, and the likely UK numbers, and that adds up to around 5 million copies sold in less than two weeks.

This was all revealed by Business Wire, who posted the press release from Nintendo about the incredible sales numbers. They also revealed that the Nintendo Switch has sold 8.7 million in just the United States, and has become the fastest-selling console in the world eof this generation for its first 21 months.

“We are thrilled to see such a strong reaction from consumers in the second holiday season for Nintendo Switch,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “We’re looking forward to delivering more excitement and smiles to our fans in the coming year and beyond.”

And given that Ultimate is a title that every new Nintendo Switch owner is likely going to want for one reason or another, it’s well on its way to being the best-selling Smash Bros title ever.
