The Witcher Series Has Sold 33 Million Copies

It’s amazing to see how some video game series grow in popularity even though their initial games weren’t exactly massive hits. A great example of this is The Witcher, while its easy to look at now as a massively successful RPG series, it didn’t start off that way. The first game was praised, but didn’t exactly sell a lot. Assassins Of Kings brought many new people to the table, but was still not a massive hit, and then, by the time Wild Hunt came along, everyone was on board with it.

But, if we look at the series as a whole, how well did it sell? Well, during a financial briefing video, developer CD Projekt Red revealed that the three games combined have sold 33 million copies worldwide to date. That’s really impressive, and the team has noted that a large chunk of that is because of The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, which is by and large the biggest and grandest of the games. However, they also noted that the first two Witcher games are selling well too, likely because players are wanting to see what they missed.

As for the other Witcher game, GWENT, the card title is doing incredibly well, and CD Projekt Red praised how the game continues to be adored by players. Given that this game gives the ability to do esports tournaments, you can expect support for this for a very long time.

While its true that Wild Hunt marks the end of The Witcher’s RPG series, that doesn’t mean the world itself is gone. Main character Geralt is going to be a guest character in Soul Calibur VI. GWENT will live on for a while. And there’s even a Netflix series based in the world coming. As you wait for two of those things to arrive, you can always replay the trilogy.
