Toxicity In Overwatch Is Going Down

The thing with competitive games is that they always have toxic communities. You can’t have a competitive game mode where you have stakes and not have someone that gets angry when they lose. Overwatch is a prime example of a highly competitive shooter that has, well, a lot of angry players. But, Blizzard managed to tackle one of the biggest problems in the game, and that is deciding who plays what. No one wants to play a healer or a tank when they wanted a DPS right from the start. That’s why we got the Looking For Group feature where everyone can pick what they want from their teammates.

It’s nice to see that Overwatch players are getting friendlier to one another. You see, no matter how great an online game is, if it has a bad community it won’t be much fun to play. See, you’re forced to play with others, so you can’t avoid getting dragged into flaming and griefing. Thankfully, the Looking For Group feature that Blizzard released impacted Overwatch quite nicely. Competitive matches that have abusive chat in them got reduced, and the amount of abusive daily players also got reduced.

Why can’t all competitive communities improve over time? Everyone will have a better time if we just get along. That isn’t hard to do, but we can’t have nice things in gaming all the time it seems.
