World Of Warcraft To Overhaul Classes With Battle For Azeroth

There is a danger to being a very successful game, especially one that continually gets played as the years go by. You have to fight complacency, you have to fight the urge to “keep things as they are”, for while it’s easy to do that, that’s not what players want. World of Warcraft has learned this lesson many times over during its lifespan, and they know that with every update and expansion they do, they have to keep things fresh and interesting.

And that’s exactly what they intend to do with the upcoming expansion Battle For Azeroth. For though they’re going back to their roots by focusing on the battle between The Alliance and The Horde, they’re also overhauling the game itself. In a special blog, Blizzard detailed that many things will change in the expansion, one them being how classes are viewed and treated:

“One area we’re trying to focus on across all classes is to better emphasize what makes each class unique and provide greater distinction among their various capabilities, especially when it comes to utility—tools that fall outside of core role functions like damage, healing, or mitigation.”

Blizzard notes that it’s “frustrating” that so many classes have similar abilities, and thus don’t feel as special as they should. They want to overhaul these classes so it’ll be clear how unique they all are. They want to create situations where one class is needed, and no other class will do.

One way they’re going to do this is by altering abilities, but also, they’re going to redo the talent system and make it more powerful without compromising what the character is:

“One of the major challenges in setting up talent rows is that they serve two conflicting desires: choices within a row should be meaningfully varied, but also should not feel like they are simply a test of which is best in a particular setting. “

There’s no release date for World Of Warcraft’s Battle For Azeroth expansion as of yet.
