Xbox Head Says PC and Console Gaming Won’t Be Replaced For “Years And Years”

The future of gaming is something that is literally always in question. For no matter who you talk to, they often will have a completely different answer to how things will go. Whether one console will dominate the other, whether a new technology will provide “change for the future”, etc. It’s a mess to navigate. A recent thread or thought that you might have heard of is that the games industry is going to be “replaced” by certain other technologies. But the head of Xbox isn’t buying that belief.

During an interview, Xbox head Phil Spencer spoke out about the “state” of video games. Noting that it’ll be “years and years” before consoles and PC gaming are replaced. Especially in regards to ideas of how streaming games will replace them.

“There are certain scenarios where a streams game is the best answer,” he said. “On a console, the best scenario is for you to download that game and play. If you’re on a PC that’s capable of downloading and playing a game, download and play that game.”

He went on:

“Not all devices are capable of playing the great high fidelity games that we see here in the show [X018], that our first parties are building and the third parties are building, so streaming is an option in those scenarios. And there’s some scenarios of like instant starts and trials, where maybe streaming on a device could be interesting, but I think for years and years, the best way to go play a game on a console is going to be to download that game and play it, and same thing on PC.”

So as you can see, the Xbox leader isn’t afraid of those “new technologies” right now. And to his credit, while the Xbox One isn’t doing so well right now, it’s still selling, and until it doesn’t, Microsoft will keep making consoles.
