Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns is the very first expansion pack for Guild Wars 2. Heart of Thorns launched on October 23rd, 2015 on Microsoft Windows.

One of the most exciting features of this expansion is the Revenant profession. This profession uses the power of legends such as demon, assassin, centaur, dragon, and dwarf to utilize many different abilities which have various uses that range from healing to dealing damage and even to tanking.

Each of the classes can now choose an elite specialization that gives the player the option of unlocking otherwise unusable weapons for each class and players can also unlock new abilities and skills. These elite specializations can be only unlocked once a character gets to level 80. Heart of Thorns also adds Guild halls. Once a Guild claims an area in the Heart of Maguuma they can then build a guild hall on it which serves as a social area for the guild's members.

This expansion also brings four new open world maps, each with three unique biomes that feature jungle floors, canopy, and roots. Outposts and Adventures have alos been added, and they are new gameplay elements that increase the dynamic event system which is exclusive to Guild Wars 2. New races and civilizations have also been introduced.

Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns introduces raids to the game. Raids represent immensely difficult instanced content that is designed for ten players to conquer. Raids are divided into a couple of wings, and after the group manages to overcome all the wings and defeat the enemies found there they get all kinds of special rewards that include things like legendary armor.

A new PvP mode called Stronghold comes with this expansion. Stronghold takes place on a map called Battle of Champion's Dusk, and in this mode, players need to charge into the enemy lines, break through them, and find the enemy team's lord and slay him in battle.
