Imagine the Electro-Motive Type E units. For an entire generation, they were the quintessential locomotives used to haul America's passenger trains. These stylish E-type vehicles are now waiting for you in Train Simulator, the EMD E8 is included in two classic Amtrak liveries.

When Amtrak was formed to become the United States' Intercity passenger carrier in 1971, the company had to build a fleet of used locomotives. Amtrak first turned to the Electro-Motive E8 and its little sister: the E9. Amtrak operated nearly 200 E-Type locomotives, and these sleek EMD diesel vehicles became workhorses for the fledgling company.

The E8 was produced in nearly 500 examples by EMD between 1949 and 1954. The E8's 2,250 horsepower engine came from a pair of EMD series 567 V-12s, the axle arrangement was of the A1A-A1A, and it could go up to 188 km/h (117 mph). Working for Amtrak, E8s traveled the country performing both short and long haul service. The last E-type locomotives operated for Amtrak until the early 1980s.

Train Simulator's Amtrak E8 comes in cab and non-cab configurations, and is available in two liveries: the original Amtrak "Phase I" with the red nose and the "Phase II" with its stylish stripes. The headlights of the E8 are available in dual or single versions, as they were on the original version and its reassembled variants.

And that's not all ! Amtrak rolling stock is ideal to accompany the E8 and to recreate an American passenger train from the 1970s / early 1980s. The E8 package therefore includes the following Amtrak vehicles: a baggage car, a 48 seats, a dome car, 10 6-berth cars and a dining car in Amtrak “Phase I” livery.Miami - West Palm Beach Route Add-On (available separately) and even includes Train Simulator's popular Seaboard Coast Line General Electric U36B and its freight gear for as realistic an experience as possible.
