Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is the latest video game in the immensely popular Counter-Strike franchise of multiplayer shooters. The game was developed by both Hidden Path Entertainment and Valve. It is one of the most competitive shooters out there and it has been present on the scene for a while now. Many shooters have come into the competitive esports spotlight, but Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has a stable player base that has remained ever since the game first launched.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive officially released in August 2012 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and OS X. The Linux version of the game came out two years later in September 2014.

The gameplay of this competitive multiplayer shooter is rather simple, you pick between two teams, Terrorists, and Counter-Terrorists, and you try to fulfill your missions. Terrorists will try to do what they've always done, and that is plant bombs and take hostages. Counter-Terrorists have to take down the terrorists and defuse their bombs and save the hostages. The gunplay of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is absolutely phenomenal, and all the combat in the game is focused on a player's skill. There is no RNG factor in the matches, it's all pure reflexes, tactical thinking, and aim. The game features eight different modes for you to try out, each with their set of rules and objectives for you to complete.

Valve is constantly updating the game with new content and various patches and updates, and the game also features an in-game loot system where you can find various skins for your weapons that alter their appearance only and have no effect on the gameplay.

For the bulk of the year, in-person esports events have been off the table, with tournament organisers scrambling to set up online events to take the place of LAN-based on-site events. ESL has announced that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will return to LAN format for the IEM Global Challenge this December to crown this year's champion in the multiplayer game. The Intel Extreme Masters Global Challenge is slated for December 15-20, and will take place in Cologne, Germany. The tournament will f...

The war between cheaters and anti-cheat technology might be endless, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun with it. I’m delighted to learn about the work of “ScriptKid”, a fella who releases fake cheats that actually sabotage games for would-be cheaters. Wrong’uns go to Google looking for free cheats, find the fake cheat site he’s set up, download and run his fake cheats, then… find they’re forced to jump off buildings to their death in ...

Dignitas has dropped veteran Counter-Strike duo Christopher 'GeT_RiGhT' Alesund and Richard 'Xizt' Landström from its starting roster after a string of poor performances. The two Swedes, who were both long-serving members of Ninjas In Pyjama's iconic CS:GO roster before reuniting at Dignitas, have been benched because "recent results have failed to live up to fans' expectations," according to a statement from the organisation. Dignitas also says news on the two players' replacements would be s...

Despite the ongoing global pandemic, professional CS:GO players haven't had a moment's rest thanks to online tournaments. The CS:GO community recently saw the effects of exhaustion when Lukas 'gla1ve' Rossander and Andreas 'Xyp9x' Højsleth decided to step down from the Astralis starting lineup, with gla1ve in particular citing burnout and stress symptoms. Ninjas in Pyjamas has now made the decision to place Tim 'nawwk' Jonasson on medical leave for the rest of ESL Pro League. The reason for naww...

Astralis Group has decided to merge the branding of all its esports teams to coincide with its most famous and successful squad, the Astralis CS:GO team. The name, iconic logo, and 'To the stars' slogan of Astralis will now be adopted by the group's two other teams: LEC League of Legends team Origen and the Future FC FIFA esports brand. Astralis Group has always tried to keep its three esports brands separate and leave the Astralis title exclusively for the CS:GO team that made it such a recogni...
