Dark Souls III is an action RPG, the fourth game in the Souls series. It was developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game first released in Japan in March 2016 and then it released worldwide in April 2016.

Like the previous games, Dark Souls III is also an action role-playing game that is played from the third-person perspective. Players in the game can use all kinds of weapons to battle their enemies, from bows to throwable weapons to swords. Shields can also be used in the game, but not as weapons, rather as secondary equipment which you can use to protect yourself from incoming damage, such as melee attacks and projectiles. Each weapon in the game has a normal attack and a more powerful version that can be charged up. Besides the shields, players can also use dodge-rolling to escape any form of incoming damage.

Bonfires that you find in Dark Souls III are used as checkpoints. Magic is also featured in the game and it uses the "focus points" system that was shown in Demon Souls. There are two types of Estus Flasks in the game as well, one that fills up your health pool and the other that restores your focus points.

Combat is also much more fluid in this game, with certain actions being much quicker than in previous games. Certain types of player movement like swinging heavy weapons and backstepping can now be done much quicker which greatly increases the flow of combat.

Every other Monday, Dominic gives you a reason to dust off one of your old games and dive into its mods with Modder Superior. Dark Souls modders are forged in the flames of adversity. While mostly limited to technical improvements (such as Durante’s fixes for the wonky original PC port) and small texture packs, the past few years have brought about a whole new genre of Souls mods for all three games. While limited in what can be added to the trilogy (though breakthroughs are being made on ...

Look! A ranking of the 50 best RPGs on PC. I know, you never asked for this, but here it is. It is 100 percent correct, we double-checked. The RPG is a broad and deep sea and fishing out the best games from its characterful waters is no easy task. But we are capable fishers on the good ship RPS, and know when to humanely throw back a tiddler or fight to heave up a monster. Enough of this salty metaphor. Here are the 50 best RPGs you can play on PC today. (more…)

I heard you don t like our podcast, the Electronic Wireless Show. But have you listened to 76 hours of it yet? Honestly, mate, it opens up after that. The 76-hour mark, that s when it clicks . But I understand if you don t have the time. Just skip ahead to this week s episode, in which we re talking about games about which we changed our minds. Listen in for the platformers we prematurely pooh-poohed and the Souls games that sucked before they were super. (more…)

Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day, perhaps for all time. It was inevitable that this would feature in a Have You Played article. Dark Souls III heralded the end of the wildly popular trilogy of punishing games, and it was the culmination of everything From Software learned over the Souls years. But of course, you probably knew that. You probably don’t know, however, that according to the deep and secret lore of Dark Souls 3, one of the ...

There is a saying in architecture that no building is unbuildable, only unbuilt. Structures may be impossible in the here and now, but have the potential to exist given enough time or technological development: a futuristic cityscape, a spacefaring megastructure, the ruins of an alien civilisation. However, there are also buildings that defy the physical laws of space. It is not an issue that they could not exist, but that they should not. Their forms bend and warp in unthinkable ways; dream-lik...

Loved every moment of Dark Souls III. It ends the trilogy on a pretty good, if not near-perfect note.
