Outlast 2 is the follow-up to the critically acclaimed survival horror game Outlast. Outlast 2 is a twisted new voyage into the depths of the human mind and its dark secrets, set in the same universe as the first game but with fresh people and a different setting.

Outlast 2 introduces you to Sullivan Knoth and his followers, who fled our evil world to create Temple Gate, a settlement deep in the wilderness and hidden from civilization. Knoth and his flock are preparing for the end-of-the-world hardships, and you're right in the middle of it.

You're Blake Langermann, a cameraman who works with your wife, Lynn. You two are investigative journalists that are prepared to take risks and dig deep to unearth stories that no one else will touch.

You're on the trail of clues that began with the seemingly inexplicable murder of a pregnant lady known only as Jane Doe.

The investigation has taken you miles into the Arizona desert, into a darkness so deep that no one can see it, and into corruption so profound that going insane may be the only reasonable thing to do.

Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day, perhaps for all time. I will never understand why Outlast caused such a stir back in 2013, more so after playing its sequel. I suppose I get why folks liked it: playing a videogame version of all those found footage horror films you either love or hate or love to hate, is a pretty nifty thing. But there were so many valves to turn, jump scares and unsurprising plot twists. (more…)

RPS is having an Apocalypse Day! We’re celebrating the end of the world and games about it. Check back tomorrow, if we’re still all here. What’s your favourite moon in a game? The lipless satellite of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, perhaps? Overwatch’s rather cosy lunar map? Somebody asked me this a few weeks ago — genuinely, we’d been talking about First Man — and to my surprise I found myself thinking of Outlast 2. There is little about Re...

When shopping for horror games, there are a number of things to consider. Does the game in question operate a first or third-person perspective? Are we fighting/pegging it from zombies, cultists, government soldiers, supernatural beings or all of the above? Does it let us walk across a charred baby pit—hang on, what?  For me, Outlast 2's tone will be forever captured by Tim's striking post-E3 2016 preview headline, no matter how it dials back its difficulty and/or introduce...
