Horror has taken on many forms over the years. And video games have wanted nothing more than to make you experience fear in an all-new way. Now, a new title named SOMA is going to give you a scare like nothing before, all the while dealing with deep themes that you wouldn't expect from a horror title. This sci-fi horror game from Frictional Games, who created Amnesia: The Dark Descent. is something very, very special. For with themes of identity, consciousness, and what it means to be human, this is a true story driven game, all the while trying to scare you out of your wits.
The world of SOMA is one that lies deep beneath the ocean waves, where you are isolated and alone, and terror is all around you. Many bad things have happened, and you have to look around in order to find out the dark truth that lies within this place. But what is the true? Documents, terminals, and the few remaining people left on the station may be the key to finding out. But finding them will also escale the events that are happening all around you. Know this though. On this station, humans aren't the only thing running around.
For here, under the water, there be monsters, and machines, and AI that is out to get you. To survive, you have to make some tough decisions. Each one needs to be dealt with in a different way. And if you can't figure it out...you'll never make it out.

“I should go check on the Frictional website,” I thought to myself when I woke up this morning. I’ll call it a premonition, though I clearly wasn’t the first to have it. If you hadn’t heard, Frictional Games, developers of Soma and Amnesia: The Dark Descent, recently updated their website nextfrictionalgame.com with a spooky pulsating little symbol. It morphed once already, and has morphed again, beginning a merry chase of YouTube videos and hints presumably related...

There is currently a very spooky pulsating object on Frictional Games' website - and judging by the page name, I think it's safe to say this is about a new game. But what is that thing? An eyeball, frogspawn? Who knows. The studio, known for its utterly terrifying horror games Amnesia: The Dark Descent and SOMA, apparently began the ARG at the end of December - and fans are in the midst of unravelling the mystery. For those unfamiliar, ARG means alternate reality game, normally taking the form o...

One Off The List is our weekly list feature. Is there something you think doesn t deserve to be on this list? Comment with your reasons why, and next week it may be struck off. Here we stand in the dark neo-year of 2020. The spam bots have risen to prominence, the governments of the world are bickering over follower counts, and history class has been renamed “meme studies”. Somewhere, in a dusty room in the RPS treehouse, a rogue human is compiling a list article for a crumbling ...

The folks over at Frictional Games seem to have something new in the works. The studio has largely been quiet since releasing SOMA back in 2015 aside from adding a monster-free Safe Mode to the spooky underwater game. Frictional overhauled their old website just before taking a holiday break and in the update have added a new entry to the “games” tab simply called “Next Frictional Game.” (more…)

One Off The List is our weekly list feature. Is there something you think doesn t deserve to be on this list? Comment with your reasons why, and next week it may be taken off. Mech love, not war. That is the lesson we must learn from the futuristic prophecies of the MechWarrior games. Yes, it is very noble to slam your big steel shoes upon a separatist s bedroom, and to laser him in the head. But would it not bring greater valour, greater unity, greater enlightenment, if those same 65-ton br...

Out and out a super horror experience like very little out there for setting at atmosphere, brought down slightly by the occasional lack of direction or poor level design.
