Combat In The Outer Worlds Won’t Be Boring

Last time we found out how many hours of fun The Outer Worlds is going to give us, now we get more insight into the combat.

The Outer Worlds

We just finished talking about the game yesterday, when we got even more information about Obsidian’s latest RPG. This time though, the news focus on the combat aspect of the game and how it will feel and play. The Outer Worlds is an RPG first, but it is also a shooter. Naturally, the devs worked hard to make the shooting aspect quite enjoyable.

You know how in Fallout games the shooting is almost like a beta version of what it’s supposed to be like? Thankfully, The Outer Worlds has some solid gunplay, and there’s even a mechanic that slows down time. Yup, if you’re ever in a pinch, just make everyone move really slow while you unload lasers into their heads.

There won’t be too much combat, to the point that you feel overwhelmed by all the action. It’s placed strategically, to keep the action going when you need it. The GameInformer interview also told us that we’re going to have a nice variety of weapons to choose from at early levels of the game, which is terrific. Modifying certain guns with things like scopes will also be possible.

The scythe that was featured in the official gameplay video was cool, and they’ve said that some melee weapons are going to be available. Even if the number isn’t all that high in the base game, they can add more in expansions and DLC! They also talked about the people that will join you on your space adventures and their abilities. Your companions have skills which the player can modify to some extent, and you can give them specific orders as well.
