No Future Resistance Titles Planned

It’s not uncommon for video game developers to make a series of games that only impact a certain generation of console. For the PS3, when it launched it had a series of games, but the headliner of the bunch was a visually striking shooter called Resistance. This was made by Insomniac Games, who were the creators of Ratchet & Clank, and it was very different from that franchise. Over the course of the PS3 life cycle, three main games in the franchise were made for PS3, and one for PSP.

Since then though, the Resistance franchise has not been seen or heard from again. And if community director James Stevenson is to be believed, the odds of getting another game out of the series isn’t high:

“Oh wow, if I was a betting man? It feels like it’s a longshot to me,” said Stevenson when asked by Finder. “But I have learned over the years to never say never. I think there are a lot of people out there that have fond memories of a Resistance game from the PS3 era, but yeah, never say never, it’s just that we have no plans to make another Resistance game in the future.”

This makes sense as they’re currently working on the highly-anticipated Spider-Man title that’s coming in September, but that doesn’t mean the franchise can’t return, for you see, Insomniac doesn’t own the rights to it:

“Obviously other developers made the portable versions for the PSP back in the day,” noted Stevenson. “It’s actually Sony that owns the IP and owns that universe. So I guess if they were really passionate about making Resistance 4 and we couldn’t or didn’t want to do it, Sony could totally engage another developer. But that would be up to Sony, not us.”

So it could return even without Insomniac, but if it is in the making, no word has been muttered about it.
