Nintendo Ceasing New Nintendo 3DS Production in Europe

Not long ago Nintendo revealed that they would be ceasing production of the New Nintendo 3DS in Japan. It has now been confirmed that it will also be ceasing production in Europe though it hasn’t been confirmed if the model will be discontinued on a worldwide scale.

This means that the New Nintendo 3DS XL will now be the only active model, along with the Nintendo 2DS and the upcoming New Nintendo 2DS XL. The US market won’t really be affected however, since the smaller model is only sold mainly in promotions and specific packs. It will have an affect of Japan and Europe, since both models were on sale in those regions as general options.

Sales for the New Nintendo 3DS XL model have been very strong so far for the company, selling almost 10 million units. This dwarfs the amount of the smaller model sold, which sold 2.49 million units, providing a clear indication that consumers prefer the larger version on the handheld console.

It has yet to be revealed as to when the last shipment of the discontinued units will be shipped to stores across Europe, so if you’re after somewhat of a collectable item, then be sure to get your hands on one as soon as you possibly can.
