Blizzard To End Support For Windows XP and Vista

Its bad news for players using Windows XP and Vista for their favorite Blizzard games. The company has announced via Battle.net that starting from October this year, they will begin the process of ending support for both XP and Vista.

Games such as World of Warcraft, StarCraft II, Diablo III, Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm will no longer be available to play on these operating system. This will be rolled out over a staggered schedule, according to Blizzard community manager Nate Valenta: “we encourage any players who are still using one of the older OSes to upgrade to a newer version. We’ll be rolling out this change on a staggered schedule, and will post further notices as we get closer to making the change for each game.”

There hasn’t been any mainstream support for these operating systems for quite some time, with Microsoft ending it in 2009 for XP, and 2012 for Vista. Despite this, Blizzard continued to offer support since there was still an audience using these particular systems. By now, given that there has been three major Windows releases since, this shouldn’t cause all that much of an issue, since the majority of people will have upgraded by now.
