Blizzard’s new policy makes them own all custom game modes, maps, and so on that are made in Warcraft 3: Reforged.
A lot of people eagerly awaited the launch of Warcraft 3: Reforged. It’s one of the most beloved RTS games in gaming history. After all, the modding scene of that game gave birth to some of the most popular games of today (League of Legends, Dota 2). Those were originally all custom maps made by some rather talented people. Naturally, Blizzard couldn’t get a penny from the titles that originated from custom maps which were made in Blizzard’s game. That’s why they’re changing their policy regarding things like ownership of custom games.
What does that mean exactly? Well, any custom game that’s made in Warcraft 3: Reforged belongs to Blizzard. That’s right, the one who makes the custom map or mode doesn’t own it. Blizzard does. They have complete and utter control over that custom map/mode. Any official game that comes from a Warcraft 3: Reforged map or mode can be immediately shut down by Blizzard themselves. Not really the thing you want if you want your community to make their own content.
What are your thoughts on this subject? Is this a deal-breaker for Warcraft 3: Reforged fans? Probably not. Also, you can pick up Warcraft 3: Reforged on HRK Game for an amazing price right now!
