Destiny 2: Exotics Will Get More Exotic

Now that Destiny 2: Warmind is coming, it is bringing some changes to the game. For example, Bungie wants to make their Exotics, well, a bit more exotic. They have changes in mind, which will come to the live serves when season 3 starts in May. The way that they have in mind is the Exotic Masterworks. These Masterworks will give players new in-game goals and also reinforce specific activities in order to make their weapons more powerful.

Each Destiny 2 Exotic weapon will have a specific Exotic Masterwork upgrade for it. These become available when you discover an Exotic Masterwork Catalyst. Each Exotic weapon that you have has a description that gives you a hint which lets you figure out which type of activity is needed for the player to get that specific catalyst. Senior investment designer Mark Uyeda said:

“A few Masterworks will require you to do a single thing, where others will have multiple steps. These objectives will vary in difficulty and length, but will not be determined by RNG,”

“The goal for these objectives is to push the player to engage with the weapon that they wish to make into a full Masterwork.”

When a player applies his catalyst, kill tracking and orb generation starts right away, the same way that happens with Legendary Masterwork guns. Players need to do certain objectives with their newly catalyzed weapon in order to upgrade it to the final Masterwork state, which then upgrades the stats and/or adds new perk bonuses. You can read in-depth about these changes on their official “This Week at Bungie” post.
