Metro Exodus Not Looking to Introduce Multiplayer

To date, Metro has been a single-player experience enjoyed by many, but there is the feeling that the more could be done with it, such as branching out into multiplayer. Though there has also been a claustrophobic setting that has made the series what it is, yet it does appear to be spreading its wings with Metro Exodus.

Despite this, it doesn’t seem that the developers are keen in expanding into multiplayer, according to an interview with 4A Games conducted by GameInformer. Executive producer Jon Bloch stated:

“I don’t think we can say [multiplayer] is something that isn’t interesting from a technical standpoint. But our focus for Metro has always been a story-driven experience, y’know, filling the shoes of someone living in [Metro’s] environment and going on this journey.”

Also in the interview, creative director Andriy Prokhorov does state that they have played around with ideas, though they don’t want to simply introduce it for the sake of it:

“Multiplayer is possible, yes. But to do it only for the sake of having multiplayer? We’re not interested. If you do it, it should be something really unique. We have an idea but….we are not doing it right now.”

Metro Exodus is set for release later this year.
