Overwatch Fan Theory Regarding Alejandra Dismissed

Sometimes, fan theories have to be put to bed in video games. This didn’t stop one from heating up after the “Hero” short for Overwatch which released last year, featuring Soldier:76 and more importantly, a young girl named Alejandra.

Fans speculated that Alejandra is in fact the Mexican hacker hero Sombra, but before learning her new identity. Given the absence of Dorado’s LemeriCo ziggurat in the short, many have taken it as a hint that it actually takes place many years before the Overwatch timeline, meaning that it could be possible that Sombra could indeed be Alejandra.

This isn’t the case, however. Overwatch lead writer Michael Chu has stepped in to debunk the theory, confirming that the “Hero” short takes place near the timeline of the game. He stated: “I think it just happens with how the first shot moves across Dorado that it just misses framing the LumeriCo power plant in the background.” If that still isn’t enough for some fans, he put the final nail in the coffin rather bluntly: : “I don’t recommend trusting Sombra’s words and stories too much, but she isn’t Alejandra”

So there you have it. Alejandra isn’t Sombra, after all. Still, its nice to see fans being so dedicated to the game to notice such things at least.
