PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Hits 20 Million Copies Sold

A recent announcement on Twitter revealed that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has ticked off yet another milestone to be reached, crossing the 20 million copies sold mark. This was confirmed by PlayerUnknown himself, Brendan Greene, who stated on the social media platform: “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds reached an amazing milestone this weekend, passing 20 million copies sold! I know a lot of you are frustrated by issues with the game but the team is working hard to deliver a truly great Battle Royale experience for everyone. Bear with us, change is coming!”

The game surpassed 16 million back in mid-October, having crossed 10 million and 13 million copies sold in September. There seems to be no slowing PUBG down in terms of its meteoric rise, which has been not quite replicated, but somewhat seen a similar surge with fellow battle royale game, Fortnite. So needless to say, the battle royale genre is extremely popular at this time. It is also due to arrive on the Xbox One Preview program, which will arrive in December and bring a whole new audience to the game.

Meanwhile, the company behind the game has recently shifted their focus to take down cheaters: “Our development team is doing their best to detect and ban those who use cheats in a more proactive manner. We are aware that we still have much to do. We will use all available resources to combat cheaters and foster a safe and fair in-game environment,” said the PUBG team. “As we announced before, we are in the process of adopting new tools to detect and verify users with unusual gameplay patterns and today, we will be rolling out additional measures.”

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is now available on Steam Early Access.
